#15 – Kyojin no Hoshi

There's no OP on youtube, and the ED has been taken down, but here's a clip of the Aurora 3 which contains a lot of the footage that was in the ED that used to be up there.

Here's a good sign of how well thought out the 2005 survey was. By conducting the survey to carefully cover the full gamut of age ranges, you are going to produce a chart that isn't in the grasp of fads.

Kyojin no Hoshi, or Star Of The Giants is a 1968 series about the Tokyo Giants baseball team. The main character was Hyuma Hoshi, but interestingly the rest of the team depicted were real players. Like the influence Captain Tsubasa had on the careers of future footballers, this led to many a baseball player deciding to pick up a bat.

Any familiarity I have with this show is down to parodies. Yes, like Ashita no Joe, this series often acts as a visual cue for any show wanting to depict a training sequence. And coaches pointing off into the distance. And anytime you see a character wearing this:

The notable parody that introduced me to this series existance (due to Animeigo's liner notes) is Urusei Yatsura. That series' Tobimaro Mizunokoji is a parody of sports manga in general, but Kyojin no Hoshi in particular, to the extent that Tobimaro is voiced by Toru Furuya, the actor who portrayed Hyuma Hoshi more than a decade earlier. He's also famous for portraying Amuro Rey, Yamcha and Tuxedo Mask.

While Kyojin no Hoshi hasn't been translated into English, it was given an Italian release.
