Three more releases for the forthcoming Monday.
Bleach: Series 1 Part 2
Manga Entertainment continue their UK release of Viz shonen series. This is two discs containing, I believe, 8 episodes. The RRP is £19.99, but you can get it for £12 if you shop around. Not quite the bargain you can get on the Naruto Unleashed releases, but still better bang for your buck than most UK anime releases. Bleach is a decent shonen series, it adapts it’s manga at a pace far faster than it’s main rivals (Naruto and One Piece), thus avoiding the padding you might normally find in such a show.
Ignoring the relative strengths of the stories of Bleach and it’s rivals, they all pretty much either adapt their source or create terrible filler stories, it’s comes up short on a few elements. It doesn’t get the occasionally gobsmacking animation showcases that Naruto gets. And it doesn’t have the quality of Japanese voice cast that One Piece has.
That being said, it’s certainly the strongest release to come out since I started these lists.
Eureka Seven: Vol.9
And now the polar opposite in terms of anime releases that fit into the general DVD market. The NINTH~! volume of BONES fun mecha show. By now if you’d been buying them at RRP price you’d have spent £179.90, and you’d still have £59.97 to spend! While it may be 50+ episodes long, £239.88 is a hefty price. That’d get you every episode ever made of Seinfeld AND still leave you with eighty quid.
I hate to break it to you, but if you have been buying this you are a mug.
Burst Angel Box Set
And the other boxset. This is more typical of the boxsets we get in the UK. RRP of £49.99 for a 26 episode series, so it just offers better value than the Bleach release. You should be able to find it for about thirty six quid online. So a relatively decent price.
Shame the series is so godawful.
