Another franchise show, this time based on the Tamogotchi spin-off where you’d raise monsters and then fight them against other kids’ monsters. This was the second series of the anime. Possibly a step down in quality from the original series and Mamoru Hosoda’s work on the films, but really it was still far better than it probably deserved to be.

So, was the original Digimon series actually worth watching then? I’m almost tempted to have a look.
Design-wise, Digimon was miles ahead of the pack of what we got during that US/UK TV anime boom period. And even though the dubbed movie is a butcher job of three films, Hosoda’s work still shines through.
Oh, and Chiaki J. Konaka would eventually write for the series. Which boggled my mind, and I’m curious to see some of those eps. ANN credits him on this series, but it looks like he’s the central creative force on the next series, Digimon Tamers.
