Pre-SHAFT work from designonaut Akiyuki Shinbo. As good as Shinbo clearly is in terms of design, he is yet to produce a show that I like. In fact as he delves further into the design aspect of his work, the colder it leaves me. The fact he adapts material I’m clearly not going to like doesn’t help matters either.
This Tatsunoko show was an attempt at producing a “mature” version of their usual superhero fare. See Karas and Casshern Sins for other adult takes on the Tatsunoko superhero output. Also worth noting that Shinbo had worked on the Hurricane Polymer update in the 90s.
