Continuing last week’s diversion from Urusei Yatsura into the J9 mecha shows, lets take a diversion into Studio Pierrot’s Magical Girl Shows, many of which were running concurrently to UY.
UY connections? Akemi Takada was character designer on both. Kazunori Ito was a writer on both. Saeko Shimazu (Shinobu in UY) was rival pop idol Megumi on Creamy Mami
UY connections? Saeko Shimazu as Sayoko, Shigeru Chiba (Megane in UY) as Geragera one of the mascot kappa and Kazuhiko Inoue (Tsubame in UY) as Kenji. In fact, lots of the cast from this, Emi & Yumi did one shot roles in UY. More Akemi Takada character designs here too.
UY connections? Shigeru Chiba as Kokubunji, Rokuro Naya (Hanawa-sensei in UY) as Junichi, Yuko Mita (Benten in UY) as Misaki.
UY Connections? Yes, that man’s back again! Shigeru Chiba was Kunimitsu, Yuko Mita was Momoko, Chika Sakamoto (Ginger in UY) was Kenta.
UY Connections? The big one is Akemi Takada returning for this belated final Magical Girl series. Director Takahiro Omori had directed UY: The Final Chapter Movie. Yoshiko Sakakibara (Elle in UY: Only You & the ghost Otama in a couple of episodes) was Mamiko. Animation director Shinichiro Minami had done key animation for a couple of UY films (Always My Darling & Lum The Forever). Episode director Takashi Ikehata had done photography on UY: Remember My Love.
Did you guess that there’s a lot more credit information for Lala in English than the others?
