THE IN SOUND

Outside of Radio’s 4,5,7 and podcasts this is what has taken my fancy in the audio stakes lately:

Having become a recent convert to the capital-A Awesome Cities On Flame With Rock And Roll blog, I’ve been listening to Happy End’s self titled third album. I’d come to them via an article I read about the influence of The Kinks on the Group Sounds, Folk Rock/New Music and Indies scene in Japan during the 60’s, 70’s and 90’s. It’s a really good album, as is the missing song Sayonara Amerika, Sayonara Japan too. I must check out the other Happy End stuff they’ve got posted up there too.

Now a bunch of random-ish tracks I’ve been listening to:

TOUGH BOY by TOM*CAT (theme to Hokuto no Ken 2)

WE STILL FIGHT. FIGHTIN’ IN THE NINETIES. Not enough post-urban apocalypses nowadays. Has science fiction got more conservative in it’s predictions of what tomorrow holds?

Kimi ni Juice wo katte Ageru by GROUP Tamashii

One thing I’ve liked about the Keroro Gunso TV adaptation is it’s choice of music. This song was the third opening, and while I don’t think it fits the show quite as well as the second opening or the written-for-the-show first opening, a jokey rock band like GROUP Tamashii seem a good fit. I mean, they are a band who appear to have both a Bez and a Chaz Smash. Who the lead singer hits with shoes. Now can anyone clear up for me if they are considered a vanity project of actor Kou Shibasaki, or is he considered a singer who acts?

Either way this video for the song is disturbing and daft and disturbing.

Chicory Tip – Son Of My Father

The song that launched electronica? YOU DECIDE.

Crazy World of Arthur Brown – Fire

I AM THE GOD OF HELLFIRE AND I BRING YOU…

Dave & Ansell Collins – Double Barrell

Oh and there’s another album I’ve been liking, one actually released this year!

Soulsavers – IT’S NOT HOW FAR YOU FALL, IT’S THE WAY YOU LAND
I only found out about when I was disappointed by the lack of Lanegan on the new QOTSA (which is exceedly competent – I miss Oliveri). So I decided to find out what he was up to, and discovered he was all over this. Here’s the single Revival.
