Lum-A-Day 041 – Panic in a Typhoon!

Another fun episode in which very little happens.

Lum & Ten are excited when a typhoon comes to town, much to Ataru’s chagrin. However when Lum uses a Gravity Converter to make the rain float, even he falls into a romantic mood. For a moment at least.

Later that night though the water has turned into a swimming pool sized amount floating in Ataru’s bedroom. And when Lum switches the G-Con off it floods the house. Eventually they end up with two bodies of water in the house, and they are stuck on the stairs with Cherry and his cat, who have floated in off the street.

Lum tries to use the G-Con to get rid of it, but Cherry thinks it’s a poison capsule and knocks it into the water. Lum goes to fetch it but gets trapped under fallen furniture. And once more we get a glimpse at Ataru’s true feelings when he goes to rescue her. The second attempt to use the G-Con is thwarted when Cherry’s cat eats it and so they have to swim to the roof to escape.

And of course, once they escape, it’s time once more for the Moroboshi’s house to be destroyed!

Lots of nice, if not flashy, animation here along with some really nice gags. Mrs Moroboshi claiming that they’ve got to keep living so they can pay the mortgage off, and her husband’s subsequent depressed reaction to this assessment of his life is one of my favourite bits here.

It does further my belief that Ito is better at writing scenes than joining them together. So far the simpler the episode he’s scripted, the stronger it’s been.
